Soldiers of Incaladion: Completed Myrmydon Secutors

At long last I have completed my Myrmidon Secutors. These models are really easy to paint, and a pleasure to work with. Their only weak point is their arms, that are brittle and can break easily if you do not handle them with the due care.

It is a real pity that Forge World only ever released two versions of the Myrmidons, the Secutors and the Destructors, both sharing the same main bodies and differing only in the weapons load-out. I suppose the sales were not high enough to justify the production of new Myrmidons sets. Clearly most of the Mechanicum players out there prefer to have big armies of robots, instead of fielding giant Tech-priests that devoted their whole life to perfecting the logic of war. Maybe i am biased because I fell in love with the Adeptus Mechanicus with the second edition of Warhammer 40,000, and at that time its army list was only composed by Tech-priests and Servitors.

Yes, Electro-priests existed too, but they are still technically Tech-priests.

Judging from their stats, I think that the Myrmidon Destructors would be more performing on the battlefield, but I can hardly imagine a warrior Tech-priest without some sort of power axe as a symbol of his office. Don’t get me wrong: Tech-priests without a power axe are perfectly fine, but I see them as having a different field of specialisation. The Magos Dominus, for example, is clearly a requisitioner, with his giant servo-arm. While my kit-bashed Techpriest Dominus is probably a Genetor, judging from his syringe hand.

As for the axes, following on the work I did with the Vanguard Primus‘ power sword, I painted their blades too too as if surrounded by a brilliant energy field. This has also been good to add a spot colour to otherwise mostly bi-chromatic models.

As the last model did not have room for energy effects on his guns, I decided to give him gold plates on his armour, appointing him Primus of the unit.

And with another three models completed, my painting backlog has become smaller. It is almost time to buy some new model, I think. I am sooooooo tempted by Belisarius Cawl, and I have always wanted a Triaros Conveyer.

Well, better finish some other model before ever thinking about them again. I still do not have room to store new models…
